Center for International Higher Education director Philip Altbach presented his research on institutional resistance to studying private and for-profit universities at the European Association for International Education conference in Copenhagen.

Professor M. Brinton Lykes traveled to Guatemala during the summer to continue work on the effects of migration on human rights among local families whose relatives have been detained in, or deported from, the United States.

Carly Blustein, M.Ed.’11, a graduate of the Donovan Urban Teaching Scholars program, is now a member of the Teach for America Corps in Atlanta, Ga., where she was featured in a local TV news segment on new teachers starting the school year.
Warren Chiang, Ph.D.’11, has been appointed director of Stanford University’s Leland Scholars Program for first-year science students.
Jennifer Doyle ’05, M.Ed.’06, was named one of the 13 best educators in Boston at the Boston Public Schools’ 11th annual Boston Educators of the Year ceremony.
Mary Kim Fries, Ph.D.’02, died on September 12 after a long struggle with cancer. An associate professor at the University of New Hampshire, Fries was a beloved colleague and friend to many at Boston College.
Mark Gillis, M.Ed. ’94, is the new principal of Sacred Heart School in Hampton, N.H.

After 14 years at Babson College, Karen Hebert-Maccaro, Ph.D.’08, has moved on to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute School of Business, where she is associate dean.

University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Vincent J. Kloskowski III, MA ’96, the assistant dean for academic affairs at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, received the National Academic Advising Association’s 2011 academic advising excellence award.
Susan Marine, Ph.D.’09, was appointed assistant professor of higher education at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.
Katelyn Rideout ’06, M.Ed.’07, has been appointed assistant principal of Somers-worth High School, in Somersworth, N.H.
