Former
BC student athletes give back
A number of
former BC student athletes are demonstrating their support for the
University by contributing a total of $29 million to the Ever to
Excel Campaign. Nineteen of these alumni have made leadership gifts
of $100,000 or more.
Football, hockey, basketball, track, and golf are represented by
the alumni athletes who have made leadership gift contributions.
These donors range by class from 1950 through 1987. Five leadership
gifts have come from alumni who graduated in the 1980s alone.
Longtime donor Scott A. Gieselman '85, MS'88, a member of the 1985
Cotton Bowl team, committed $100,000 to the proposed varsity athletic
center. Gieselman garnered many honors during his career at Boston
College and currently serves as a managing director for Goldman
Sachs in Houston.
Many of these alumni attribute their personal and professional success
to their start at Boston College. As Gene DeFilippo, BC's athletic
director, notes, "The individuals who have been most generous to
us appreciated the athletic scholarship that brought them to BC.
Their discipline and hard work continued through their college years
and sustained them as they built their careers. Now, they are enjoying
success, and BC is fortunate to benefit from their kindness."
