Thank you for this wonderful commentary on the Illiad. I read it in the Honors Program at BC. This reminded me anew of my wonderful education at BC.

This is the most elegant and incisive reflection on our modern situation: when there is no clear platonic or Hegelian ideal to attain, and when the drive to achieve safety, stability and prosperity pit so many against another in mortal combat, why should one reject fear, righteous anger and the desire for war or revenge and instead fervently seek common ground with one’s enemies from which peace, resolution and understanding may be achieved, even for a short while.
