Not sure what to say or how to respond. Like Jim I served as a Board Member for a homeless advocacy group (Community Partnership for Homeless, a public-private partnership started by Alvah Chapman in Miami in the early 90s. Unlike Jim, however, I never had the guts to sleep on the streets to know what it was really like.) We were successful in Miami, at least as successful as can be measured by the number of people no longer sleeping on the streets. Then again, Miami is warm and inviting (!!) when compared to the cold of the northeast . Having grown up in Boston I recall the cold (the biting cold) - but certainly not from the specter of walking the streets and finding sleep nd comfort (comfort?) on the sidewalks in the dead of winter.
I live in Charlotte, NC now (for the past 4 months) and want to involve my energies in keeping people and families off the streets. If anyone reading this is interested in helping me please let me know (msmall@tcco.com). God bless.
